Procedures
for Admission
The prospective student will submit to the registrar her
completed application form, a transcript of all high school work, a
college transcript if she has taken college courses, and the
immunization records (MMR) required by the State of New Jersey.
(A student born prior to 1957 is exempt from the immunization
requirement.) Resident international students follow a more
detailed policy for admission. |
The
academic dean evaluates college transcripts to determine which
courses may be accepted toward a degree from ACS.
To qualify, courses must fulfill the degree requirements of
this College and rate a minimum grade of C.
Testing
for Basic Academic Competencies
Tests
to provide information concerning basic academic competencies in
language and mathematics are administered to all students who intend
to pursue a degree. The
College utilizes tests purchased from the Multiple Assessment
Programs and Services of the College Board. When tests indicate weakness in these skills through the
student’s failure to reach the required score in Arithmetic
Skills, in Reading Comprehension, and in Conventions of Written
English, the College requires and offers remediation. International applicants are tested in their knowledge of
English as a Second Language for placement purposes.
International
Students
Assumption
College
for
Sisters is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant
students. International
students are required to have a high school diploma or its
equivalent in order to apply. They
should also have at least a beginner’s knowledge of English, which
will be supplemented while in residence at ACS. |
 |
Perpetually professed members of international religious communities
may apply for scholarships to ACS and reside at the College.
The following procedure must be followed:
Superior
General or Provincial Superior of the community requests a
scholarship for a particular sister of her community.
-
ACS
administrator sends medical form and application to be completed and
returned with the sister’s official transcripts.
-
College
administration reviews the transcripts, medical forms and
application. Upon
approval, the sister is officially registered with the Department of
Immigration and the I-20 form is issued for a student visa
-
Travel
arrangements are made and paid for by the respective community, as
well as health care coverage. The
College is given advance notice of date of arrival.
Generally new international students will be accepted only
for beginning in the fall semester.
-
The
respective community assumes the entire responsibility for
application to other institutions after graduation from ACS, as well
as arranging for travel and board elsewhere.
International students must acquire
an adequate knowledge of English before they are admitted to other
college-credit courses. The
College offers a range of English as a Second Language (ESL) courses
for the acquisition of language skills.
